Some brands are better than others when it comes to constant innovation. For instance, you can always count on Mtn Dew to have a new soda on deck, which is exciting even if it turns out to be insane and disgusting. And Cheez-It is no slouch either. They created what many people consider to be a perfect cheese cracker, but they aren’t content to rest on their crunchy laurels. In recent years, they’ve given us Cheez-It Grooves in a variety of flavors, as well as several iterations of Cheez-It Snap’d, a cracker that may or may not be named after a show about women murdering their husbands. And when they discovered that the world really loves those one or two nearly burnt Cheez-Its you find in every box, they went ahead and released a whole box of toasty boys. Well, Cheez-It is at it again and this time they’re catering to people who want their cheese crackers to be…louder. Two new Cheez-It varieties are hitting stores now: Cheez-It Extra Crunchy Bold Cheddar and Cheez-It Snapped Extra Crunchy Sharp White Cheddar. We tasted them both to find out if crunchier is better.
New Product!
Cheez-It Snap’d Extra Crunchy Sharp White CheddarCheez-It Snap’d already pack more crunch than original Cheez-Its, so if you’re into that, you’ll probably like these. They’re more like thick, dry chips than crackers because they contain dried potato rather than just wheat flour.
Pros: The new Extra Crunchy Cheez-It Snap’d are certainly crunchy! Are they crunchier than regular Snap’d? Couldn’t say, but I’ll take Cheez-It’s word for it. These also seem to be a little extra toasty, which gives them a nice flavor.
Cons: I personally don’t really love the tang of a white cheddar flavor dust, so these wouldn’t be my first pick. If they would have made both products in Bold Cheddar flavor, we’d be in business. Also, and this is a minor quibble, but the packaging REALLY makes them look like they should be mozzarella or parmesan flavored. Cue “Tarantella Napoletana.”

New Product!
Cheez-It Extra Crunchy Bold CheddarExtra Crunchy Bold Cheddar Cheez-Its are pretty addictive (just ask this lady who just ate half a box for literally no reason). They are noticeably crunchier than regular Cheez-Its, a little bit toastier (but not Extra Toasty toasty), and they’re coated in a cheesy dust that tastes really, really good.
Pros: There isn’t much to not like about these new Cheez-Its. They’re crunchy and toasty and so, so savory. Honestly, it wasn’t the crunch that kept me eating these, it was that salty-ass cheese dust.
Cons: Okay, so this might be a pro for some people but it’s a con for me: These are much drier than regular ol’ Cheez-Its. That good, greasy quality is part of what makes Cheez-Its great. These sacrifice that in favor of crunch. I think Cheez-It purists like my husband would be let down by these—but he’d still eat the whole box.
