Cinqué Lee was born in July 1966 in Brooklyn, New York City. He is the son of Bill Lee, a jazz musician, and Jacquelyn Lee, a teacher. He has five siblings, including Spike Lee, Joie Lee, David Lee, Arnold Lee, and Chris Lee.

Lee began his career as an actor, appearing in a number of films and television shows, including School Daze (1988), Do the Right Thing (1989), Mo’ Better Blues (1990), and Crooklyn (1994). He also had a small role in the 2013 film Oldboy.

In addition to his acting career, Lee has also worked as a writer and director. He co-wrote the screenplay for Crooklyn with his brother Spike, and he has directed a number of films, including Nowhere Fast (1997), Sink Like a Stone (2000), UR4 Given (2004), Window on Your Present (2010), and Burn Out the Day (2010).
